From a railroad stop to a city
Madison began as Madison Station, a stop on the Memphis & Charleston Railroad that grew up in the 1850s, and it was incorporated on December 2, 1869. Redstone Arsenal lies to the southeast, and many residents work there or at Cummings Research Park. The city covers about 30.6 square miles of land.
Limbs and brush
Madison's trash collection guidelines allow limbs up to 8 feet long with side branches trimmed, stacked neatly at the curb by 6 a.m., within the 5 cubic yards per household that Republic Services picks up each week. Waste from hired workers or professional lawn services isn't collected, so hauling belongs in a contractor's price. See brush and limb pickup.
Tree rules
Madison runs its own city government, and no Madison tree ordinance turned up in a form we could cite, so check with the City of Madison about trees near streets or on a lot under development. Alabama's tree surgery permit and Alabama 811 apply here as everywhere in the state; see permits and rules.
Other towns with requests: Harvest, Hazel Green, Owens Cross Roads, and Huntsville itself. See every area.
